(Re: “Sem Eye: Money, money, money!,” Kerux, Nov. 6, 2006)

Surely this article was done in jest, yet I find the attitude toward those who have been blessed (because of HARD work, long hours, careful planning) with “money” way to prevalent in the church. Is it at all possible for those of you in ministry to look at these parishioners with eyes that see beyond the dollar sign. You will get your piece… many gifts along the way, book allowances, more time off than most of your congregation members, you will be paid by your church for working “other” jobs (teaching in the seminary, mentoring seminary students et all), free doctor’s appointments, housing allowances, car allowances, education allowances, seminar funds…loopholes that free you from the IRS. How many of you are receiving scholarship money, free food, free clothes. Ungrateful wretches! In truth, it is the elderly in your churches that are bailing many of our congregations out..giving estate funds, picking up the year end needs, sponsoring scholarships for YOUR children to attend Christian schools.

I grieve for the future of this church. It’s NOT all about YOU!
