Winter: Delayed
I get ready
to go outside
I put on a
warm sweater
I say I’m chilled
but then I
put a coat on top
of my sweater.
I feel warm.
I walk outside
and I realize
I’m overdressed.
I’m not chilled by
the briskness of the
cool day.
I am toasty
and warm
because the rain
has sprung up
into
a humid eve.
No snow here.
Spring?
Today is rainy
and quiet.
The sun came out
briefly
warming us.
I pretended
We were in spring.
But really
We are in mid-winter
January.
The snow could
come any day.
I would welcome
the freezing temperature
that comes with it.
Today is rainy
I could read
But these days I
seem to be writing.
