“Hello out there. We’re on the air. It’s hockey night tonight.” Hockey is back! The National Hockey League (NHL) took their sweet time to start up the 2012-13 season. While hockey fans around the globe bit their finger nails in nervous anticipation of the fate of their beloved NHL, the hockey enthusiasts at Calvin Theological Seminary kept their composure. In the midst of turmoil, there was a beacon of hope. Though the NHL might face a lockout, the Medenblik Stick would prevail. Hockey is back, and the 2nd annual Medenblik Stick will soon be upon us.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Medenblik Stick, it is an annual time of free ice skating followed by a pick-up hockey game. The afternoon starts with a time of free skating at the arena for all of the members of the seminary community, including friends and family members. There will be free skate rentals available at the arena. Also, there will be free hot chocolate available to warm up after skating. The free skating will be followed by a pick-up hockey game. Once again this is open to the entire seminary community. The arena has both skates and helmets available, so all you need is a hockey stick and a desire to play.
This year the Medenblik Stick will be held on Saturday February 16, 2013 from 3:30-5:30 at the Eagle’s Ice Center (formerly Jolly Roger Arena). Our very own President Medenblik will be there at center ice to drop the puck. Who will win the coveted golden stick? Will Dr. Weima lead the “Elders” to another victory with his stick handling skills reminiscent of a young Wayne Gretzky? Or will the “Deacons” throw in their collection plates and deposit enough goals for the win? Time will tell when the puck drops on the 16th. Will you be there to witness this, the most important of Calvin Theological Seminary hockey games?
Come for some skating. Come for some hot chocolate. Come for some entertainment. Come and cheer on your friends and family members. Come and enjoy a time of fellowship at the 2nd annual Medenblik Stick.
